Did you know that you need a copy of your birth certificate to: get a drivers license, get a California I.D. and in many cases to get a job? The process might seem a little scary at first but it’s really quite simple. Follow the steps below and you’ll be on your way
It might be helpful to know
1) If you don’t know what county you were born in or you were adopted BEFORE 1994, you should contact the State Office of Vital Records in Sacramento for help
2) There is a 20$ fee to obtain a copy of your birth certificate
3) Most offices close at 4 p.m.
Steps
1) Find out which county you were born in (if you don’t know, contact state office of vital records for whichever state you were born in)
2) If you need a copy of your Birth Certificate immediately/ same day you should go to the County Clerk Recorders office in person
3) You will need to bring either a California I.D., Drivers License or a School I.D.
4) You will need to bring 20$
5) Complete the “request for birth certificate” form at the County Clerk Office
6) Show them your I.D. and pay 20$
7) Sign a sworn statement that you are who you say you are (a sworn statement means, that you are legally telling the truth)
8) Wait about 10 min. and they will give you a copy of your birth certificate
