Blogs :: Pride Parade

   I didn't go to the San Fransisco Pride Parade but I do know others who did go. I always thought that it was cool to have a parade to celebrate something that is sometimes shunned but one of my friends didn't really feel the same. When we talked about the parade she said,"I didn't go because I don't think it's neccessary. I mean, you don't see me getting a parade to celebrate me being straight, do you? No because there is no parade for people who are straight no I don't think the LGBT community needs to have a parade for themselves and it will just make more controversy. They want to be considered normal but the "normal" people don't get a parade to celebrate their sexuality."

  I was kinda shocked. I never thought about it that way before. I always thought and still do thatthe parade is great. I love seeing people being happy with who they are but I guess my friend does have some point even if I don't agree. Pride seems like a great, spirited way to let people know that they are here and that they aren't going to hide. I would've gone and support but my parents weren't crazy about me going to see a lot of drunks and nudity so I got the second hand account of all the floats and festivites. I will probably go when I'm not still considered young and impressionable. I personally am not crazy to see the drunks and nudity but the actual parade is said to be fantastic.
