Blogs :: Spanish Exchange Student

   This week I had a girl from Basque Country, Spain who was my same age living in my home. The excursions we went on were fun but the best part was sitting around talking. We had some much in common even though she spoke a diferen language and lived in another country. When we went to the movies we both were watching for attractive guys. When we went to the store we both immediatley went to the candy and cookies aisle. And when we were watching reality TV, we both were yelling at the contestants even though  she was yelling in Spanish and me in English. The whole expierence was very give and take. We would show her American foods like corndogs and she would show us Spanish omelettes. We would hang out with the other teens from Spain and she would come over to my friends' house with me. It was amazing how alike we were and we became great friends immediatley.

  Honestly, I was expceting there to be a giant culture difference. I was worried she wouldn't want to do anything I usually did. I had this idea in my head that we would be too different to be friends. I think that I was being a little bit judgemental just because of where she came from which is an example of how we still judge people today. We are proud of ourselves for overcoming so much and having a lot of equality but we still do judge people before we meet them. This shows that no matter how far we get, there is still more that we can go.
