A couple weeks ago, Rafa and I interviewed Abby, the Education and Career associate. She told us about the programs provided by the education and career department. Some of these programs are the job club, tutoring, 1 on 1 resume and cover letter writing. The hottest program is tutoring, many members attend and recieve the help they need. Other things that make it successful include getting candy for answering the question of the day, and doing raffles every Thursday, the prize being gift cards. These small rewards are incentives that motivate people to come.
We interviewed a constant member that participates in tutoring who is Lanisha Taylor. She has been attending since last November, and she likes the program because it is a quiet space to do her homework. To this day, she continues to attend because there is new information on a daily basis and she always gets stuff done. She has made some suggestions on how to make tutoring better. Her suggestions include getting a bigger space to work in, more resource tools, more computers, and specialized tutors.
The education department runs tutoring and game days. They blog on educational justice and do job postings. They also do the wall of success and post different successes of people throughout the center, not only staff but members as well. Overall, the education department is well known and popular in the center.
