A very controversial bill has been proposed among congress. The bills basic plan is to cut off all federal funding to Planned Parenthoods across the country. In case you didn't know Planned Parenthood is a medical facility that provides low to no cost to people to receive healthcare; specifically reproductive health care. Across the country, planned parenthood has nearly 800 clinics and serves more then 2.5 MILLION people annually, most of these people do not have access to high-cost medical care elsewhere. The bill, like many other things going on in present day is supposed to be helping the federal government with the national deficit, but in doing so, will leave millions of people with either unaffordable or no health care at all.
Planned parenthood, being the leading provider of abortions, has quite a few people that are in favor of this bill such as certain congressmen, as well as antiabortionist. They hope that this funding cut will help deter people from getting abortions, simply because they cannot afford it. That wouldn't make much of a difference however, because only 6% of planned parent hoods services are abortions.
However, people that are against this funding cut say that this will only make our economy worst because if people aren't able to afford this simple healthcare, they'll become sick, if they become sick they can't work, causing this economy to become even worst. I would definitely have to agree with this side of the argument.
