First off, what is Ethnic Studies? Where does that even come from? Did you know that's class? well i do and if you didn't know i'm about to inform you so read and enjoy.
Although there are many definitions of ethnic studies, it is generally agreed that it is the study of the people of America, their backgrounds or heritage, a lot of different group experiences, shared values and goals. Bassically their lives. We, as in the students, however should have a better understanding of this.
In california, there are very few highschools that offer this class, it is moreso a college class. A big debate is that this should be offered in not just colleges but be made a mandatory high school class. Over 3 decades ago a group of students from the black student union as well as a few other groups of ethnicites got togther to ralley to get a class that was relevant to them.
The classes that the college students were taking were all about the "white man"'s victory over all the other ethnicities, the classes they were taking simply were not relevant to them. SO they decided to ralley against it and try to enforce getting those classes that were relevant to them. This went on for a few years until finnally it got enacted in california colleges. A major one is San Fransico State, known or its ethnic studies deparment. This event has inspired a generation to want to fight for what they know is right and hopefully they won't stop here.
