Blogs :: Eye contact

Recently I had the opportunity to take a class where they taught about public speaking. The class was given to just the members of the Digital Justice Team. The person who taught the class was Laura, she is one of Dan’s friends, Dan is my boss and because of him I have had a lo of opportunities to learn a lot about many different things for example he had her friend Laura to come and teach us about public speaking. Laura was a very charismatic person and, in my opinion, she was a perfect public speaker. She didn't even know us, and she seemed very comfortable with teaching us. She apparently works with a lot of CEOs to better themselves with public speaking, and she even runs her own clothing line! We were taught on things like eye contact, gestures, hand gestures, body language, poise, and a lot more. If I had to chose something that stood out to me, it would have to be poise and eye contact. I found out how much I actually look at people in the eyes when they talk or when I am speaking. I actually noticed how some people can’t take me looking at them in the eyes. Like, ironically, with one of my teachers it seems like he doesn’t like eye contact or maybe he cant handle it. I believe that the only reason that poise was something that stood out to me is because I have taught myself not to “slouch” when standing. The class was very helpful specially because I had to do a presentation the very next day in my school about the lamest topic ever, cement :/, I found that kind of funny. The class about public speaking was very interesting, we even did exercises with speaking to each other in pairs of two, and then we had to elaborate on that experience. I liked it. The class was, in my opinion, very successful in the matters of learning. Thanks Laura :D.
