Art, music, community — what better way to ring in the new school year than with the second-annual RYSE Center Back to School Summer Jam? RYSE’s free community event will showcase local DJs, rappers, and dancers celebrating youth culture and promising fun in Richmond. Come participate in screen printing workshops, see the outdoor youth art exhibition, and learn about multiple community resources.

Summer Jam featured artist, D. Ross:
D. Ross, hip hop rap artist, was raised in Richmond. On the surface, his story is like most you have heard before… he spent his early years in poverty, having little to no resources; and growing up no stranger to the struggle and hardships of the hood. With effortless articulation, D. Ross “fills in the blanks” and tells the pieces of the tales that the media neglects to reveal. He speaks through poetic verse on topics concerning family, daily hardships, society, economics, and politics; this lyricist is gifted with the ability to metaphorically simplify complex world problems so that most can relate, and all can understand. Come to RYSE’s Back to School Summer Jam to see D. Ross perform along with other local artists and youth performers.

We look forward to seeing you this Saturday! In the meantime, check out a public service announcement below produced by RYSE’s Media Arts Team.
