Community :: having new textbooks, or having a brand new school building which is more important?
if it came down to weather you could have a new building or new textbooks, which would you choose? I'm not going to put any specific high school in west contra costa unified school district in el cerrito on blast BUT in case you have not been able to see it, the school is brand new. it's cost more then 120 MILLION dollars with a full technical theater, state of the art weight room and not just 1 gyms but 2! yet, there are still books that we use that are older then i am ( 17) though most of the textbooks are no younger then 5 or 6 year olds, i beilive that most of that money should have went to more books, resources, and feildtrips for the students but that's just my opnion, but i want to know your opinion so just let me know what's your opinion, do you think it would beifet students more to have a new building or to have new books, resourses and more felidtrips?
for example CCC the college I attend will crumble if there was an earthquake and everyones knows it. But because of the budget cuts they don't want to give us nothing, they cut our classes, resources, aid and a whole bunch of public resources. The problem goes way deeper than deciding where the money should be allocated but where the money actually is. Like we saw on the last RLT meeting, the clip that showed my old school Helms Middle School after Prop 13, a lot of policies affect how much money from the rich we get for public services. Taxing the rich can give all schools a new building, books and scholarships and we won't have to decide between our safety and resources

It depends if the old school was in good conditions then yes, more money should be spend on textbooks and resources. However, if the school was not earthquake proof or safe enough the rebuilding of the school was the wisest choice in my perspective. 120 million dollars is a lot of money... they could of even given scholarships to students
I agree with you completely!!! More people should look at it that way. Books are key. Buildings are great but books are more important. A book can give you something much more valuable. Buildings crumble, get old, and abandoned. Books do the same but, what they hold inside and, what you get out of them will stay with you forever.
