Picking a major is something I am still having trouble with. I don't know what I want to spend a lot of my energy trying to accomplish. School is essential but knowing what to major on is such a drag. A counselor once told me not to worry too much because half of the people who major in a subject end up working in a different area. But even with his advice I'm having difficulties. I am at the point of my life where I think its important for me to choose but what to do if I still don't have the answer? Let more time go by? or jump into something. I think...I feel more than anything the pressure of the status quo that by a certain age you have to know what you are going to do. At least this is how I feel, what do you think?

Thank you! I will definitely reflect on the questions you raised. I have thought about it and what I care and do a lot in my spare time is work with plants and the environment and trying to engage people.

Picking a major is definitely a pressure-packed situation, MissPulido. I hope you realize that you are not alone, as many different students at every college and university feel the same pressure every year. Society seems to expect that students know exactly what they want to study as soon as they enter college or university, however, this is simply not the norm.

Do you have a few options for majors that you are considering? If so, it might help to identify classes which fulfill requirements shared by all of those majors. (For example, just about every major requires an English class, a Science class, and a Math class.) From there, you can actively take classes while continuing to investigate your options by speaking with professors and professionals in the field.

If you are still trying to figure out your options, it may help to momentarily stop thinking about picking a major and simply focus on your education. What classes did you most enjoy in school? What do you like to learn about out of school? In fact, what do you simply like to do out of school? Once you have identified what is important to you, you can figure out what you want to devote your time to. Good luck!
