Here are some of the questions that did NOT get answered at the presentation last night. Check back for presenter responses to these questions. I will post additional comments from the audience later.
Questions:
1. As a new tax-exempt nonprofit organization serving transition aged youth, what steps do you recommend taking to obtain funding for transitional housing?
2. How does this complicated person get help? Considering the number of barriers that prevent mental health persons from accessing or sustaining housing, do you havea n algorithm of what an individual in need should do? Case example: person with untreated mental health and alcohol abuse issues, with anger and violence problems and a criminal history, with no credit, and limited ability to follow the complicated system steps to help. Chronically homeless.
3. What happens to families that are homeless with youth (when it is known)? Does CPS get involved? Is there emergency housing to provide ongoing shelter for these families?
4. I’m in recovery. Why is it that most housing is in drug-infested areas?
5. Are you aware that 10-20% of Contra Costa Centre Transport Village Apts. at Pleasant Hill BART is devoted to Section 8 Affordable Housing?
6. Anka Behavioral owns Phoenix Apartments in Concord. The complex houses 11 people with mental illness at present and has done so successfully for many years. This stable housing has helped keep these people stable. Anka is selling the complex at the same time that it is applying for millions of dollars to accommodate from 12 to 24 people. This does not make sense. What can be done?
