 Summer employment opportunities at Hidden Villa Summer Camp… Please pass along to anyone in your organizations that you think would be interested- especially young people looking for a paying summer job ($275-400/week + DOE) with room/board where they can help make a difference in children’s lives. Short job descriptions are included below.

 
Hidden Villa is located on a 1,600 acre organic farm and wilderness preserve on the East side of the Santa Cruz Mountains, 45 min south of San Francisco. Hidden Villa offers campers ages 6 - 18 the opportunity to explore our farm and wilderness preserve while learning about social and environmental justice, and developing a better understanding of multiculturalism.

65 years ago we became the first multi-racial summer camp in the country. Today we are dedicated to shaping the next generation of diverse young leaders dedicated to social and environmental justice. This isn't just another summer job, it's a job that impacts our world.

Day Camp Counselors: (9 positions, $275/week + DOE)  Day Camp counselors work with approximately seven campers ages 6 to 9, Monday through Wednesday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm and Thursday 8:00 am through Friday 5:00 pm (staff sleep on site for a camper’s overnight). Counselors lead their group through activities on the farm and trails of Hidden Villa.  They are responsible for cultivating the genuine curiosity, self-esteem, and well being of the campers. Needs to be at least 18 years old. Must participate in pre summer online training.  Must be available June 11-Aug. 21. (Day Camp counselors have the option to camp onsiteduring the summer)

Responsible for recognizing and meeting the needs of individual campers, and working to develop a sense of community within the group and the camp.  Staff lead an activity daily incorporating Hidden Villa values and resources, participate in all camp activities and nighttime supervision of campers.  Must show enthusiasm for having responsible fun. Needs to be at least 18 years old. Must participate in pre summer online training.   Must be available June 11-Aug. 21.

Residential Counselor Lifeguard: (1 position, $300/ week + DOE + room & board) Work and live with campers and staff. Youth Leadership Counselor: (1 position, $275/week + DOE + room & board) Work as a counselor in the Youth Leadership Programs teaching teens to work with children as well as teaching leadership & life skills. Develop and lead workshops including but not limited: Age-Characteristics, Behavior Management,Conflict Resolution & Social Justice.  Support a group of 12 campers on a 10 day backpacking trip from Hidden Villa Ranch to Wadell Beach in Santa Cruz twice during the summer.  At least (1-2) years working in camping or equivalent experience and experience working with teens.  Must have a strong interest in developing camp programs.  Needs to be at least 21 years old. Must participate in pre summer online training.   Must be available June 11-Aug. 21.

Youth Leadership Trip Leader/Counselor: (1 position, $300/week + DOE + room & board) Work as a counselor in the Youth Leadership Programs. Guide a group of 12 campers on a 10 day backpacking trip from Hidden Villa Ranch to Wadell Beach in Santa Cruz twice during the summer.  Work as a counselor in the ACT program teaching teens to work with children as well as leadership & life skills.  Must have experience as a trip leader, working with teens and be proficient in use of all backpacking equipment including stoves, maps, compass, etc. Knowledge of natural history, experience as environmental educator, and low-impact philosophy are essential.  Wilderness First Responder is required. Lifeguard Certification is a plus. Needs to be at least 21 years old. Must participate in pre summer online training.    Must be available June 4-Aug. 21.

Program Heads: (8 positions, $325/week + DOE + room & board) Excellent communications skills, ability to relate to and supervise others. At least three (3) years working in camping or equivalent experience, with at least one year as a supervisor. Responsible with co-program head for managing one of four programs (Day Camp, Tipi Camp, Resident Camp, Farm and Wilderness) which includes supervising staff, counselor interns and campers in the program. Also responsible for serving as a member of all camp management staff. Must have a strong interest in developing camp programs. Needs to be at least 21 years old. Must participate in pre summer online training.   Must be available June 4-Aug. 21.

Health Care Manager / Nurse: (1 position, $450-$575/week + DOE + room & board)
Licensed RN or LVN desired.  Will consider EMT certified candidates. Experience with children and young adults. Ability to monitor health care, maintain records and supplies, implement health care plan and manage an established budget. Desire to live and work in a camp community.  Needs to be at least 21 years old. Must participate in pre summer online training.   Must be available June 4-Aug. 21.

Lifeguard: (1 position, $300/week + DOE + room & board) Current Lifeguard Certification, CPR & First Aid required; WSI preferred.  Oversee all aspects of the pool – free swim, swim lessons, pool orientations.  Supervising pool watchers & counselor lifeguards.  Inventory and maintain equipment.  Needs to be at least 21 years old. Must participate in pre summer online training.   Must be available June 4-Aug. 21.

Kitchen Assistants: (4 positions, $300/week + DOE + room & board) Support food service manager and cooks in serving three healthy and fresh meals to residential campers and staff. Experience with food preparation and kitchen maintenance. Desire to work in a camp kitchen. Ability to learn to do tasks as assigned. Ability to lift weight of 50lbs. Ability to relate well with others and work around children.  Must be available June 11-Aug. 21.

Cooks: (2 positions, $12/hr +DOE + housing negotiable) Current Safe Serve certification preferred.
Work with Food Service Manager to estimate needs, and to order, receive and store food and supplies. Assist in training kitchen staff. Function as a general all-around cook for all meals and special events. Ability to plan and prepare foods for special needs groups and those with dietary restrictions (Vegan, Food Allergies, etc). Maintain kitchen with a high standard of cleanliness, sanitation and safety.  Experience as a cook and/or assistant cook, preferably at a camp.Ability to relate well with others in a camp setting.  Must be available June 4- Aug. 21.

Food Service Manager: (1 position, $13/hr +DOE + housing negotiable.)  Current Safe Serve certification preferred. Oversee all of Camp’s Food Service, supervise and train a six person kitchen staff.  Meet needs for all camp programs.  Maintain kitchen with a high standard of cleanliness, sanitation and safety. Responsibilities include: Menu planning, ordering, cooking, inventory, scheduling and payroll. Ability to plan and prepare foods for special needs groups and those with dietary restrictions (Vegan, Food Allergies, etc) Excellent communication skills, ability to relate to and supervise others.  Experience in a camp or institutional food-service setting.  Must be available June 4-Aug. 21.
