man killed in moring shooting

OAKLAND — A young man was shot and killed in Oakland early this morning.

The man was identified as 18-year-old Jonathan Lee Scott of Oakland. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Gunshots were detected by the city's ShotSpotter acoustic surveillance system at 1:18 a.m. in the 5900 block of Hayes Avenue, police spokesman Officer Jeff Thomason said.

Officers responded but didn't find any victims. Police then received a report of a person on the ground in front of a home in the 5900 block of Harmon Avenue.

Police do not know the motive in the killing and do not have any suspects in custody.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the Oakland Police Department's homicide unit at 510-238-3821 or Crime Stoppers at 510-777-3211.

The killing is the city's 49th homicide this year. At this time last year, the city had logged 62 homicides.

this is really sad to hear.. people cant really walk down a street without watching their back. and its an event that people get used to. but nobody should be used to violence in their community. hopefully these killings DO stop and be safe in a non violent community..

wow, I most def agree with Joesph. It's so crazy how someone can wake up and be shot early in the morning. The last paragraph of this blog is a bit relieving knowing that the violence is slowly decreasing but it still hurts to know that there is still violence/homicides going on. Hopefully one day it will stop and we can start seeing statistics that say NO HOMICIDES THIS YEAR IN THE WHOLE BAY AREA!

that's crazy how a persons life can be at stake even in the mourning. its if no one is safe in the world these days. also its crazy how a person can just take some ones life with no regrets.
