California Community Colleges
Location
Description
The California Community Colleges are the largest higher educational system in the nation comprised of 72 districts and 109 colleges with more than 2.5 million students per year. Locally, the Community Colleges of California operate the City College of San Francisco (see entry below), but they are located all over the state. Students generally attend community colleges for two years or less. Community colleges supply workforce training and basic skills education, prepare students for transfer to four-year institutions and offer opportunities for personal enrichment and lifelong learning. The cost of education at community colleges is substantially lower than it would be at a 4-year university or technical school. Community college campuses often provide comprehensive services including student health centers, resource centers for students with disabilities, EOPS Offices, Guardian Scholars Offices, and more. All of the community colleges have an Office of Financial Aid to help with the cost of schooling.
